Wilson Kipsang and Kim Smith Headline International Pro Fields for NYC Half

NEW YORK - Olympic bronze medalist Wilson Kipsang of Kenya and three-time Olympian Kim Smith of New Zealand will headline the international fields for the NYC Half on Sunday, March 17; World Championships bronze medalist Bob Tahri of France will make his half-marathon debut; and Portugal's newly crowned European Indoor Championships gold medalist Sara Moreira will run the NYC Half as her U.S. debut, it was announced by New York Road Runners president and CEO Mary Wittenberg.


Previously announced runners for the NYC Half men's professional field include U.S. Olympians Meb Keflezighi, Abdi Abdirahman, Dathan Ritzenhein, and Bernard Lagat. Additional U.S. competitors include Jason Hartmann, the top American in the 2012 Boston Marathon; and Guor Marial, who ran the London Olympic Marathon under the flag of the IOC and will be running his first race as a U.S. citizen.



In the women's race, previously announced runners include Janet Bawcom, a 2012 U.S. Olympian at 10,000 meters, along with Americans Adriana Nelson, Maegan Krifchin, Molly Pritz, Stephanie Rothstein Bruce, and Serena Burla.

Kosgei, Gesabwa Win Allstate Life Insurance Miami Beach 13.1 Marathon
MIAMI - More than 3,000 runners enjoyed a revamped course at the 2013 The Allstate Life Insurance Miami Beach 13.1 Marathon® on Saturday. Kenyan Shadrack Kosgei was victorious on the men's side in an extremely close race, while Risper Gesabwa repeated as women's champion, finishing in one hour, 12 minutes, 15 seconds.


Each winner took home $13,100 from the $29,200 prize purse, the largest of any race in Florida. The prize money is a result of the 13.1 Marathon® National Championship, a rewards program designed to raise the stature of the Allstate Life Insurance 13.1 Marathon® series that includes races in New York (March 23, 2013), Chicago (June 8, 2013), Boston (September 15, 2013), Atlanta (October 6, 2013), Dallas (October 26, 2013), Fort Lauderdale (November 10, 2013) and Los Angeles (January 2014).

UPMC Health Plan Increases Pittsburgh Half Marathon Prize Purse to $34,500


PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The
Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon has announced that
UPMC Health Plan, title sponsor of the
UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon, has committed more than $9,000 to raise the total prize purse for the 2013 event, making it one of the nation's top five largest half marathon prize purses.


The UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, May 5, 2013, has increased its prize purse from $25,200 to $34,500, an event record. The top seven male and female finishers will receive prize money with the men's and women's champions taking home $6,500 each.



"Every year, we strive to move our elite program to the next level," said Patrice Matamoros, race director of the Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon. "We thank UPMC Health Plan for their continued support of our elite program. The increased prize purse exemplifies how our race has grown over the past five years to become a world-class event."

Aaron Braun Added to GO! St. Louis Half Marathon Elite Field
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - GO! St. Louis, a local not-for-profit organization that specializes in providing fitness events and programs for the region on a year-round basis, announced that Aaron Braun has been added to the men's elite field for the GO! St. Louis Half Marathon presented by PNC Bank. Athletes will be vying for a $10,000 top prize, which is one of the largest in the U.S.


Braun (right, credit PhotoRun) has a long list of credentials including a fifth-place finish over 10,000 meters at last summer's U.S. Olympic Trials and a 1 hour, 2 minute, 52 second debut half-marathon this past January. He trains in Flagstaff, Ariz. with the adidas-McMillanElite team, and joins a strong field that includes fellow Flagstaff residents Matt Llano and Danny Mercado as well as past GO! St. Louis champions Daniel Kirwa (2012), Josphat Boit (2011) and Mario Macias (2010).



"Adding Aaron Braun to our previously announced elite field is a tremendous bonus," said Nancy Lieberman, GO! St. Louis president. "We wanted to give an opportunity to up-and-coming athletes and Aaron is someone who is right on the cusp of being America's next big star."

USATF Announces Prize Money for .US National Road Racing Championships




INDIANAPOLIS - The nation's top distance runners will compete for a total prize purse of $100,000 at the 2013 .US National Road Racing Championships, USA Track & Field announced this week..


Unveiled lin February, USATF's first wholly owned and operated race is a 12-kilometer (12K) event providing a season-capping finale to the USA Running Circuit (USARC), a series of national-championship races that annually provides nearly $1 million in prize money to American runners.


"It is always our goal to provide financial incentives and support that will move the needle for our athletes," said USATF CEO Max Siegel. "Thanks to our partnership with .US, USA Track & Field is able to offer substantial prize money, particularly for a race of this distance."
