Flanagan, Derrick Claim USA Cross Country Titles


ST. LOUIS - Shalane Flanagan (right, USATF photo) used her superior strength to pull away from the rest of the women's open field while Chris Derrick bested a loaded men's open race as each claimed USA Cross Country titles Saturday, Feb. 2 at Forest Park.

In addition to awarding national championships for competitors in men's and women's junior, open and masters competition, spots on Team USA for the World Cross Country Championships, scheduled for Sunday, March 24 in Bydgoszcz, Poland, were also on the line for the top six finishers in the junior and senior races. Emily Stites and Oklahoma State's Craig Nowak also claimed national titles in junior competition as competitors battled steady breezes and temperatures in the 30s throughout the day.

Worldwide Stairclimbing Talent Takes on 36th Empire State Building Run-Up


NEW YORK CITY - Racing up 86 floors, 1,576 steps, and 1,050 feet from the lobby to the iconic 86th floor Observatory, more than 600 participants from around the world will take the long way up to the top of the world's most famous office building in the 36th Empire State Building Run-Up Powered by the MMRF on Wednesday, February 6.


This unusual race was the brainchild of Fred Lebow, and it may have been the first of its kind. The inaugural Run-Up was held in 1978 and was won by Gary Muhrcke - the former firefighter who was already renowned for winning the first-ever New York City Marathon in 1970. While visitors can reach the observation deck (nearly a quarter mile above Fifth Avenue) via elevator in under a minute, the fastest runners cover the 1,576 stairs in about 10 minutes. The race begins in the lobby of the Empire State Building, Fifth Avenue between 33rd and 34th streets

2013 XTERRA Trail Run World Championship Moved to Nov. 24



The 2013 XTERRA Trail Run World Championship will be held on November 24.


For the fifth consecutive year, the event will be staged at the picturesque Kualoa Ranch on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. But for the first time, it will be run in November instead of December.



As always, it will be open to runners of all ages and skill levels from around the world. Discount early-bird registration fees will be available throughout the month of February by on the XTERRA Planet website.

Muscle Milk Light ZOOMA Women's Race Series Launches Personal Best Program

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Muscle Milk Light ZOOMA Women's Race Series announced a program whereby it will offer special "PR" medals to participants for running faster or longer than ever before.


ZOOMA, the first national women's half-marathon series, has a history of pioneering new concepts in women's running. Today, with the announcement of the 2013 ZOOMA Personal Best program, ZOOMA reaffirms its commitment to furthering the sport of women's running.



The ZOOMA Personal Best program challenges runners or walkers to complete a distance best or set a personal record. If they achieve their goal, athletes will receive a special "PR" medal at the finish line party, offering the opportunity for extra bragging rights.

KeyBank Vermont City Marathon Plans 25th Anniversary Celebration



BURLINGTON, Vt. - To commemorate the
KeyBank Vermont City Marathon's 25th Anniversary this May, the organization announces celebratory events, special recognition of volunteers, and appearances of notable running legends. The marathon and relay is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 26, 2013, and running celebrities Jeff Galloway,
