Clay wins, Arnold finishes fourth at Gotzis
Reigning Olympic champion Bryan Clay was the overall winner, and two-time NCAA Outdoor champion Jake Arnold finished fourth in the men's decathlon at the 35th Hypo-Bank Meeting in Gotzis, Austria.
In winning his second Gotzis decathlon title in four outings, Clay totaled 8,483 points over the two-day event, which is the leading mark in the world this year. Light rain hampered the competition on Saturday, while light to heavy rain made conditions less than ideal on Sunday.
Following the competition, Clay spoke about the difficulty of competing in the pole vault under the rainy conditions. "It was so wet, you got drenched when you landed in the pit, like taking a bath," he told Decathlon USA. "Just looking at the final scores gives you no idea how hard it was to compete out there. This was a difficult meet and I'm happy to come through it healthy."
Romain Barras (FRA) was the runner-up to Clay with 8,297 points, with 2008 Olympic bronze medalist and 2009 World Champs silver medalist Leonel Suarez of Cuba finishing third with 8,286 points. American standout Jake Arnold, who finished 24th at the Berlin World Championships and 10th at Gotzis last year, finished fourth with a personal best of 8,253 points. 2009 World Champion Trey Hardee dropped out after the first day of competition with a minor injury.
In the women's heptathlon competition, 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championships and USA Outdoor Championships third-place finisher Bettie Wade set a personal best with her total of 6,000 points with her ninth place finish. 2008 Olympic Games heptathlon silver medalist Hyleas Fountain dropped out of the competition after five events. Reigning World Champion Jessica Ennis of Great Britain won the event with a total of 6,689 points.

Moore cracks 11-second barrier for the first time in Brazil
2007 World Outdoor Championships 200m seventh-place finisher LaShaunte'a Moore easily bettered her previous 100m personal best when she won Sunday at the Grand Premio Caixa Maringa de Atletismo in Maringa, Brazil.
A 2004 Olympian, Moore broke the 11-second barrier for the first time in her career when she was clocked at 10.97 seconds, which easily surpassed her previous PR of 11.03 from the 2008 Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore. Moore is the first female athlete ever to run under 11 seconds on South American soil.
"This is a wonderful result for me," said Moore on www.iaaf.com. "It's even hard to believe it. I'm very happy."
Earlier this year Moore set a new personal best in the 200m on May 1 when she ran 22.46 in Baie Mahault, which is the second-fastest time in the world this year.
