World-class athletes highlight ‘TrackTown Tuesday’
PORTLAND, Ore. – Olympic hopefuls from the top professional track and field clubs in Oregon will be on hand to celebrate the unveiling of the brand new 200-meter indoor track being assembled in the House of Track at the first “TrackTown Tuesday” of 2016.
This free community event is open to the public. It will be held Tuesday, Jan. 5 at the House of Track at 2400 NW Front Avenue in Portland. Doors open at 6 p.m. followed by the one-hour show at 7 p.m. Food and beverage will be available for purchase.
Special guests at the Portland edition of “TrackTown Tuesday” include world-class athletes Matthew Centrowitz, Shannon Rowbury, Emily Infeld, Hassan Mead and Tom Farrell.
Centrowitz is a 2012 Olympian and two-time World Championship medalist in the 1,500 meters; Rowbury, a two-time Olympian and World Championship medalist, is the U.S. record-holder in the 1,500 meters; Infeld won a bronze medal in the 10,000 meters at the 2015 World Championships last summer; and Mead and Farrell qualified for the 2015 World Championships in the 10,000 and 5,000 meters, respectively.
TrackTown USA President Vin Lananna will be the host of “TrackTown Tuesday” and former University of Oregon three-sport star Jordan Kent will serve as the emcee.
There will be programming notes on the four indoor meets to be held at the House of Track (Jan. 15-16, Jan. 22-23, Jan. 29-30 and Feb. 5-6) and updated information on single-session ticket availability for the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships, March 17-20, at the Oregon Convention Center.
As a special treat, Nike+ Run Club Global Head Coach Chris Bennett will be in attendance to encourage the local running community to take advantage of a series of weekly Nike+ Run Club live sessions at the House of Track.
Nike+ Run Club Portland will be hosting their weekly Speed Runs at the House of Track beginning Tuesday, Jan. 12 through mid-February, and will also host their Ready, Set, Go Run – a workout tailored specifically to new runners – out of the House of Track space starting Sunday, Jan. 17.
Weekly NRC sessions open for registration online at Nike.com/Portland every Sunday at 1 p.m.

Keith Conning: Shannon Rowbury (Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep, San Francisco) won the CIF State Meet 1600 meters in 2002. Her grandmother on her father's side lived just two blocks from me in the Sunset District of San Francisco. I lived there from 1941-1959. Jim Brovelli, who coached basketball at USF, lived across the street from me on Cecilia Avenue.
