Dons Shatter School Records in Seattle
Seattle, Wash. –– In their first meet of the 2016 season, the USF men's track and field team got off to a fast start, breaking program records in the 3000M at the Washington Indoor Invitational on Saturday.
In section two of the 3000M run, Edward Shepherd posted a time of 8:14.20 to beat the program record of 8:18.40, set by Jose Madera last year in Seattle. Finishing 12th overall was Matt Leach, who raced an 8:23.62, good for seventh in program history.
Ten minutes later, Ryan Driscoll and Alex Short re-wrote the records books once again, with Driscoll coming in at 8:10.44 and Short at 8:15.55. Driscoll, Short and Shepherd all ran personal bests as well.
After the 3000M, Mohamed Aziz competed in the Mile run, placing second in the first meet with a time of 4:11.26, a personal best that placed him second in USF history.
"All of our guys posted solid openers and set the tone for the upcoming season," said head track and field coach Helen Lehman-Winters. "We have a long ways to go, but this was a very solid start."
The Dons will return to Seattle on Feb. 12, where they will compete in the Husky Classic.
