FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The UCLA track and field team completed competition at the Razorback Invitational on Saturday from the Randal Tyson Track Complex.
For the second time in this early season Nicholas Scarvelis has sailed the shot over 66 feet. On Saturday Scarvelis uncorked his fifth throw 66-3.75 to win the event. He had three throws over 65 feet on the day. Sophomore Braheme Days was sixth at 59-9.75 and freshman Dotun Ogundeji followed in seventh at 59-5.75.
The women’s shot put started off the final day for the Bruins as junior Torie Owers placed fifth with a throw of 53-9.75. The freshmen duo of Stamatia Scarvelis (52-3.75) and Ashlie Blake (49-11) followed in eighth and ninth, respectively.
UCLA had three in the top eight in the women’s triple jump as senior Faith Anumba soared 41-3.75 to place fourth overall. Sophomore Efe Agege was seventh at 39-2.50 and Christina Chenault placed eighth with a leap of 38-10.50.
On the track sophomore Misana Viltz placed fifth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.04. Senior Ferdinand Edman placed fourth in the mile at 4:07.22. Nick Hartle finished third in the 800m invite with a time of 1:49.60. In the women’s 800m in her first race at that distance in a UCLA uniform Kim Mackay won her heat with a time of 2:11.87 to place fourth overall.
UCLA will take another long trip next weekend when they head to Lincoln, Neb., to compete at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational. The two-day meet will begin on Friday, Feb. 5.
