B.A.A. Sets Field Size of 30,000 Entrants for 2015 Boston Marathon®

BOSTON - The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) has set a field size of 30,000 entrants for the 2015 Boston Marathon. Registration for the 2015 Boston Marathon will open on Monday, September 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. ET. The B.A.A. will use the same process to register qualified runners as it used for the Boston Marathon in 2012, 2013 and 2014, allowing the fastest qualifiers in their gender and age group to register first.

The 119th Boston Marathon will be held on Monday, April 20, 2015, Patriots' Day in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and will mark the 30th consecutive year that the event will have John Hancock Financial as its principal sponsor.

Working in cooperation with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the eight cities and towns along the Boston Marathon route, the B.A.A. established the field size at 30,000 entrants, which is the third-largest field size in the event's history. From 2009 to 2013, the field size was 27,000. The Centennial Boston Marathon in 1996 had the event's largest-ever field size of 38,708, which stood for seven years as the largest in marathon history. The 2014 Boston Marathon had a field size of 36,000.

Kastor, Goucher to Race Rock 'n' Roll Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA - The addition of two U.S. Olympians
- Kara Goucher and Deena Kastor - to an already extensive professional lineup at the Rock n Ro ll Running Festival Philadelphia September 19-21 highlights the prestige of this historic race as the traditional kickoff to the fall marathon season.

On Sunday, September 21, Kastor and Goucher will toe the start line of the Rock 'n' Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon, the site of five World records, five American records, and both of the current U.S. all-comers records. The two Olympians have combined to run the five fastest half-marathon times in U.S. history.

"Having both Deena and Kara race in Philadelphia this year is truly a thrilling testament to America's greatest half-marathon, showcasing the fastest U.S. runners of all-time," said
Tracy Sundlun, SVP and co-founder of the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series. "While Deena has a legitimate shot to beat every non-master, she'll also be going after another record in Philadelphia chasing both her U.S. and hopefully the world masters records and Kara returning to the roads after injury. She just lights up her fellow competitors and lights up the sport, it's going to be a special weekend."

Sambu, Saina Win 2014 New Balance Falmouth Road Race

FALMOUTH, Mass. (August 17, 2014)-
Stephen Sambu ran away from the field,
Betsy Saina prevailed in a spirited battle, James Senbeta and Tatyana McFadden marked the 40th running of the wheelchair division with a pair of course records, and Meb Keflezighi had just plain good old fun in the 42nd New Balance Falmouth Road Race this morning.

Winning the men's race in 31:46 was
Sambu, the 26-year-old Kenyan who owns the fastest 10K time in the world this year (27:25). Sambu's 45-second margin of victory, over defending champion Micah Kogo of Kenya (32:31) is the second-largest in race history.

The women's race was a much closer affair, with Saina managing to escape from Great Britain's Gemma Steel to win in 35:56, with Steel just seven seconds back, in 36:03, and American
Molly Huddle not far behind , finishing third in 36:15-just two seconds off the fastest-ever time by an American woman here, Lynn Jennings' 36.13 in 1992.
