Sambu, Saina Win 2014 New Balance Falmouth Road Race

FALMOUTH, Mass. (August 17, 2014)- Stephen Sambu ran away from the field, Betsy Saina prevailed in a spirited battle, James Senbeta and Tatyana McFadden marked the 40th running of the wheelchair division with a pair of course records, and Meb Keflezighi had just plain good old fun in the 42nd New Balance Falmouth Road Race this morning.

Winning the men's race in 31:46 was Sambu, the 26-year-old Kenyan who owns the fastest 10K time in the world this year (27:25). Sambu's 45-second margin of victory, over defending champion Micah Kogo of Kenya (32:31) is the second-largest in race history.

The women's race was a much closer affair, with Saina managing to escape from Great Britain's Gemma Steel to win in 35:56, with Steel just seven seconds back, in 36:03, and American Molly Huddle not far behind , finishing third in 36:15-just two seconds off the fastest-ever time by an American woman here, Lynn Jennings' 36.13 in 1992.

McLaughlin, Canaday Win Pike's Peak Ascent

PIKES PEAK, Colo. (August 16, 2014) - With only one more rocky switchback to go on Saturday, Allie McLaughlin
looked up.

There was nothing more to see than the finish line banner, a giant blue sky and a cheering crowd. She threw one last surge into her tired legs and won the 2014 Pikes Peak Ascent and the World Mountain Running Association's Long Distance Championship. The win was part of a great day on Pikes Peak for the U.S. contingent of mountain runners, which captured both team titles and the men's Ascent, won by Sage Canaday. (pictured, above, photo by Nancy Hobbs).

A graduate of Air Academy High School and the University of Colorado, McLaughlin grew up with Pikes Peak in her backyard. She had always wanted to race in the ascent, and she made the best of her first attempt.

She finished in 2 hours, 33 minutes and 43 seconds, the third-fastest time by a woman in race history. She is the first female runner from the Pikes Peak Region to win the race since
Cindy O'Neill in 2000.

Registration Levels for 19th Surf City USA Marathon Surge With "Out of Town" Racers

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Organizers for the 19th edition
Surf City USA Marathon an nounced registration levels reached an all-time high for the month of July and attributed the high volumes to racers who are traveling from out of town to compete. California's Classic Oceanfront Race will take place on Sunday, February 1st of next year in Huntington Beach, California.

"The Surf City USA Marathon is iconic and has become a destination event for those outside of Southern California," said Amy Tomchak, General Manager of the Surf City Marathon.

"Last year we had 33 countries and all 50 US states represented in our field of more than 21,000 runners. Racers and their supports traveling from out of town know this race will sell out, so they are already registering, and booking their travel and hotel accommodations for the 2015 event. We believe this explains why our July numbers are record-setting," Tomchak added.

Merber, Mackey Triumph in Falmouth Mile
FALMOUTH, Mass. (August 16, 2014)-Filling the bleachers and lining the rails, hundreds of fans turned out on Saturday to cheer the athletes at the Falmouth Mile, which marked its 19
th year as one of the top events at the distance in the United States.

Winning the Elite Women's Mile for the second year in a row was
Katie Mackey in 4:27.79. The 26-year-old from Seattle, Wash., who earlier this year helped set at American Record in the 4x1500-meter relay, tucked in right behind the pacemaker for the first 1000 meters, and then decided to keep taking the brunt of the head-wind on the backstretch.

In the Men's Elite Mile, which went through the first 400 meters in 60 seconds, Garrett Heath took control of the race when the pacemaker dropped out at 1000 meters. With 150

meters remaining, 23-year-old Kyle Merber, out of Columbia University, made a hard move, felt good, and went on to win in 3:56.46. David Torrence, the 2012 winner here, was second in 3:56.46, with Heath ending up third in 3:57.20.

Gold Medalist Kenenisa Bekele Will Run First USA Marathon at 2014 Bank of America Chicago

CHICAGO - The Bank of America Chicago Marathon announced that three-time Olympic Gold medalist, 18-time World Championship medalist and current World Record holder in the 5,000m and 10,000m,
Kenenisa Bekele (ETH), will compete in his second marathon and first World Marathon Major in Chicago on October 12. In a career spanning nearly 15 years, Bekele, 32, has only raced on American soil - and always on the track - five times.

In one of the most anticipated marathon debuts in history, Bekele raced into the record books, clocking the sixth-fastest marathon debut time while setting a new course record, 2 hours, 5 minutes, 3 seconds, at the 2014 Schneider Electric Paris Marathon. Over a challenging course with several uphill climbs, Bekele ran uncontested from 30K to the finish.

"I am looking forward to coming back to America, and to running fast," says Bekele. "I have heard great things about the fans in Chicago and the course. After my win in Paris, I understand the marathon distance a lot better and I will bring that experience to Chicago. I know Chicago has a very fast course and, therefore, my goal is to break the course record of 2:03:45. After that, everything is possible."
