Gold Medalist Kenenisa Bekele Will Run First USA Marathon at 2014 Bank of America Chicago
CHICAGO - The Bank of America Chicago Marathon announced that three-time Olympic Gold medalist, 18-time World Championship medalist and current World Record holder in the 5,000m and 10,000m,
Kenenisa Bekele (ETH), will compete in his second marathon and first World Marathon Major in Chicago on October 12. In a career spanning nearly 15 years, Bekele, 32, has only raced on American soil - and always on the track - five times.
In one of the most anticipated marathon debuts in history, Bekele raced into the record books, clocking the sixth-fastest marathon debut time while setting a new course record, 2 hours, 5 minutes, 3 seconds, at the 2014 Schneider Electric Paris Marathon. Over a challenging course with several uphill climbs, Bekele ran uncontested from 30K to the finish.
"I am looking forward to coming back to America, and to running fast," says Bekele. "I have heard great things about the fans in Chicago and the course. After my win in Paris, I understand the marathon distance a lot better and I will bring that experience to Chicago. I know Chicago has a very fast course and, therefore, my goal is to break the course record of 2:03:45. After that, everything is possible."

The Falmouth Mile, which also includes wheelchair and youth miles as well as the Tommy Cochary High School Mile, will begin at 5:00 PM Saturday, August 16, at the James Kalperis Track at Falmouth High School. Admission is free.
Owning the meet records are 2011 winner Jordan McNamara
(3:54.89) and 2002 champion Suzy Favor Hamilton (4:25.27). Winners of the event, which began in 1995, have also included Kevin Sullivan, Jonathon Riley, Jason Pyrah, Brenda Martinez, Carrie Tollefson, and Juli Henner.
In his 2011 victory, McNamara led the way for 10 men to break 4 minutes. He returns this year, as do 2009 Falmouth Mile champion Will Leer, who last month ran a personal best 3:51.82 at the Morton Games Mile in Dublin, Ireland, to break a 34-year-old meet record; and Garrett Heath, the 2013 USA Road Mile Champion.
