Poole leaves Chula Vista after four-year stint

CHULA VISTA, Calif. – Craig Poole has resigned his position as director and head coach of the USATF Resident Program at the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center (CVOTC), USATF announced today.

Poole was appointed to the position in September 2010 as part of an effort to make Chula Vista a training center, particularly for jumpers and throwers, leading into the 2012 Olympic Games. Through its High Performance program, USATF is continuing to restructure the program moving into the next Olympics and beyond.

“Craig was able to bring increased structure, focus and achievement to the training center and its athletes,” USATF Managing Director of High Performance Programs Duffy Mahoney. “The foundation he helped put in place has provided a base for continued development of the Chula Vista Residence Program.”

“At this juncture in my career, I feel that the goals and plans for setting a direction for the CVOTC Residence Program have been achieved,” Poole said. “With the new direction that USATF is taking with the program, I feel that this is a good time to move on. I have thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful experience of working with many of America’s top track & field athletes, and wish USATF’s High Performance and Chula Vista Residence Program continued success.”

Poole came to the training center after 30 years at Brigham Young University, from 1980-2010. He was part of the 2004 Olympic Team coaching staff, leading athletes in the heptathlon, long jump and triple jump. He also served as USATF development coordinator for women’s combined events for more than 10 years.
