Erholtz Leads US Women to Win at NACAC Mountain Running Championships

AJIJIC, Mexico - On the grueling Chupinaya Mountain Race course in Ajijic, Mexico, which boasts nearly 3,800 feet of climbing and equal descent over the 13.8-kilometer route, Coloradoan
Brandy Erholtz blazed the trail to set what race organizer Ivan Romero Garnica referred to as "an amazing time." Her course-record performance of 1 hour, 39 minutes, 1 second bested the previous record, which was set in 2011 by American Maria Dalzot, by more than seven minutes. For the record, Erholtz earned 1200 pesos.

The event, celebrating its 18th running this year hosted not only the open race with more than 500 competitors, but also the 11th annual North American Central American Caribbean (NACAC) Mountain Running Championships with teams from Mexico and USA competing. The US men's squad finished third.

Dave McGillivray Putting the Miles in Milestone with Planned 60-Mile Birthday Run in August
BOSTON - Dave McGillivray, the race director of the B.A.A. Boston Marathon and the upcoming TD Beach to Beacon and New Balance Falmouth Road Race, is planning to put the 'miles' in his upcoming mileston e birthday by running 60 miles to mark the occasion.

He began running his age in miles on his birthday as a 12-year-old in Medford, Mass., and has continued the tradition ever since.

McGillivray, who officially turns 60 on Aug. 22, will make his run on Aug. 9 on a 3.5 mile route near his North Andover, Mass., home that includes a loop around the Old Town Common and back 17 times.

Approaching the task as he would the major sporting events that he directs, McGillivray has not only been training for the run but has planned a party at his home that day (open to media). He has been preparing for the run since the spring, including completing the entire course of the Boston Marathon after the crowds dispersed to benefit the Martin W. Richard Charitable Foundation (known as MR8) and again running the entire 26.2 mile marathon course last week. He also did a 43-mile training run on the loop course a few weeks ago and said he felt great. Famed runners such as Bill Rodgers, Joan Samuelson, Amby Burfoot, Bart Yasso and Team Hoyt plan to run some birthday miles with McGillivray.

Shalane Flanagan Puts On a Show at Rock 'n' Roll Chicago

CHICAGO (July 20, 2014) - The Windy City didn't live up to its name today, as ideal summertime conditions greeted more than 20,000 entrants for the
Rock 'n' Roll Running Festival in Chicago.
The event featured two days of running and the first ever Remix Challenge in which runners earned a special medal for completing a race on Saturday and Sunday.

Headlining the festival weekend was America's top female distance runner
Shalane Flanagan, who became the first ever recipient of the Remix Challenge medal by pacing runners at Saturday's 5K and winning Sunday's Rock 'n' Roll Chicago presented by HumanVitality on Sunday.

The Olympic bronze medalist asserted her dominance over the half-marathon distance, claiming victory with a time of 1 hour, 9 minutes and 45 seconds. It was the second fastest half-marathon run by an American woman this year.

"I came to run the streets of Chicago and today was the first real long effort I've had since the Boston Marathon," said Flanagan, who is the fastest U.S. woman to ever run the Boston course with a 2:22:02 clocking this past April. "What I ran today is basically what I want to run in my fall marathon, my marathon pace of 5:19 a mile. But I think the real highlight of my weekend was being able to mingle and run with the people on Saturday and be a part of the first Remix Challenge. I loved hearing everyone's stories because they are so inspiring and they inspire me to get the most out of myself and out of my training. That was a rare opportunity and I'm really excited that Rock 'n' Roll had multiple races this weekend."
