KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- University of Tennessee Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Dave Hart announced Wednesday that the contract of Director of Track and Field/Cross Country J.J. Clark will not be renewed for next year.
"We have made the decision not to renew Coach J.J. Clark's contract that expires at the end of June," said Hart. "On behalf of everyone associated with our track and field program, I want to thank J.J. for his tireless efforts to move our program forward.
"We will begin a search for the next head coach of our track and field program with the goal of competing at a high level within the SEC and nationally. There is no definitive timetable associated with this search process."
The 2013-14 season was Clark's fifth at the helm of the combined Tennessee program and also his 12th overall at UT. Clark originally joined Tennessee in 2002 as the head coach of the women's track and field and cross country teams, assuming the reins of the combined program before the 2009-10 campaign.
"I want to thank the University of Tennessee and the administrative staff for many great experiences over the last 12 years," said Clark. "It was rewarding to see those student-athletes graduate and win NCAA and SEC championships."
