Reese named USATF Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Brittney Reese (Gulfport, Miss.) has been named USA Track & Field’s Athlete of the Week after setting a world leading mark of 7.04m/23-1.25 in the long jump.

NELSON OUTDUELS HOFFA IN GEORGIA SHOT
With seven World and Olympic medals and 19 appearances at major outdoor championships between them, Adam Nelson and Reese Hoffa always bring the heat when they match up in the shot put. Saturday at Athens, Ga., Nelson came out on top with a world outdoor-leading 21.54m/70-8 toss to edge Hoffa by five centimeters.

Shelby Ashe also enjoyed a strong series in the women's hammer, recording three throws near or beyond the 62-meter mark to pepper the all-time U.S. junior top-10 performance list.

REESE TOPS 23 AGAIN
World Indoor and Outdoor long jump champion Brittney Reese took another leap past 23-feet at the Ole Miss Open on April 14, spanning a world outdoor-leading 7.04m/23-1.25.

FORMER GRIDDER DROPS 200M BOMB IN MIAMI
Auburn's Harry Adams, who started out as a premier cornerback at the SEC school, showed that his real destiny may lean toward the Olympic track as he smashed his previous lifetime best in the 200m at the Miami Hurricane Invitational with a 20.10 clocking. Adams earlier this spring helped Auburn to a stellar 38.30 in the 4x100m. His previous PR in the deuce -- 20.74.

GLOVER BACK ATOP SPEAR CHART
Defending NCAA champ Tim Glover of Illinois State uncorked a monster 81.31m/266-9 PR at the SeaRay Relays in Knoxville to take over the U.S. lead in the javelin and move to No. 9 on the all-time collegiate list. His toss was just shy of the Olympic A standard of 82.00m.

RAFER/JJK MEET YIELDS PAIR OF WL'S
Reigning world 100m champ and 200m silver medalist Carmelita Jeter dashed to a global-leading 22.31 in the 200m, her fifth-best time ever and a sizzling mark for April, while the Bobby Kersee All-Stars (Ginnie Powell, Jeneba Tarmoh, Dawn Harper, Allyson Felix) clocked a world-leading 42.65 in the 4x100m to highlight UCLA's Rafer Johnson/JJK Invitational.

Former Oregon Duck Keshia Baker (Fairfield HS, CA 2006; Oregon 2010), who picked up gold in Daegu last summer on the 4x400m, ran to a U.S.-leading outdoor 400m time of 51.48, her third-best time ever. In the men's 800m, Duane Solomon took over the national lead with a 1:45.83 effort.

ANOTHER CROUSER RECORD
Oregon prep Haley Crouser, who was fourth at the 2011 World Youth meet, added some more records to the family trophy cabinet at Aloha on April 13, setting national junior and high school javelin standards with her 55.22m/181-2 throw. Her older brother, Sam, holds the boys'
prep record.
