Davis Men First, Women Second at Hornet Jamboree

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Jonathan Peterson [JR Clovis, Calif. (Clovis HS '07)] and Calvin Thigpen [SR Santa Rosa, Calif. (Maria Carrillo HS '07)] went one-two and Krista Drechsler [JR Santa Barbara, Calif. (Santa Barbara HS '08)] won the women's 5K race to lead the UC Davis men's and women's cross country teams at the Hornet Jamboree, hosted by Sacramento State, Sunday at Granite Regional Park in Sacramento.

Behind Peterson and Thigpen, the Aggie men finished with 26 points to take first place over Sacramento State, who was second with 52 points, and Cal who took third place with a total score of 78 points.

Drechsler led the UC Davis women to a second-place finish, as Cal narrowly edged the Aggies to finish first. The Golden Bears finished with 40 points while the Aggies totaled 50 points. Sacramento State finished in third with 73 points.

Peterson clocked in at 19:53 in the 4-mile race, while Thigpen finished with a time of 20:08. Matt Sartori [SR Mentone, Calif. (San Bernardino Valley College)] and Jonathan Sees [SR Newark, Calif. (Newark Memorial HS '06)] finished within a second of each other as Sartori placed sixth with a time 20:24 and Sees was seventh, clocking in at 20:25. Fed Martinez [SR Covina, Calif. (Covina HS '06)] was tenth overall with a time of 20:29 to round out the Aggie scorers.

In his Aggie debut, Axel Stanovsky [JR Everett, Wash. (Everett HS; Washington)] finished 13th with a time of 20:33 while freshman Grayson Hough [FR Davis, Calif. (Davis HS '10)] recorded a time of 21:02 to finish 17th.

In the women's race, Drechsler's time of 17:23 allowed her to cross the finish line 30 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Caitlin Fitzgerald [SR Palmdale, Calif. (Highland HS '07)] came in fifth with a time of 18:03 while Sarah Tusting [SO Benicia, Calif. (Benicia HS '09)] was seventh and recorded a time of 18:07. Abbey Gallaher [JR Temecula, Calif. (Great Oak HS '08)] and freshman Alycia Cridebring [FR Pleasant Hill, Calif. (College Park HS '10)] finished 18th and 19th respectively as both clocked in at 18:32.

Kristina Taylor [JR Long Beach, Calif. (Murrieta HS '08)] was 23rd with a time of 18:47 while Courtney Crosta [FR Roseville, Calif. (Woodcreek HS '10)] was 24th with a time of 18:48 in her first race as an Aggie.

UC Davis returns to action Sept. 25 at the Stanford Invitational.
