All,
You didn't think I forgot about you Did You?? Well, as you may have expected, Bob Jensen and I have been doing some pretty serious Fun Planning for the VSP over the past few months and I wanted to let you know what the hell is going on June 8th-12th at the Villard! Bob (VSP owner) wanted me to first mention how much he appreciates those of you who have stopped by and had a meal or a beverage when you visited Eugene over the past few months. Many of you have mentioned to me that you have made the VSP your "place to go" when you are in town. It is very much appreciated!
Now on to the Festivities:
a. We will be doing a Scaled Back Vendor area (6-8 booths) so if you, or anyone wants to participate please e-mail me back. I have 4 left @ $300. TAFNEWS (Track & Field News), T-Roller (a deep tissue massage tool), and Mt SAC relays are on board!
b. There will be a Hootie Run on Sat Morning
c. Food & Drink specials for the entire Meet, working on some Special Track Themed Mugs for you...
d. Working with Runnerspace to set up Athlete Interview area again since so many of them hang out at the Pub (after their events of course!)
With your help (you using your mailing lists) and us using our pervasive, VS Athletics coaches lists, we will begin getting the messages out to potential attendees. I will be contacting the Oregon State HS Coaches Association through Dave Frank (hear that Frankie?). Ed Fox at TAFNEWS has already said he will put a Heavy Mention in the NCAA Issue, so the "Bible" is on Board! Haven't heard from Eder....
Bob is also working on some cool arrangements with local suppliers to Help Coaches with their thirst and hunger before & after the Meet. Just let me say, that being on the Restaurant, Bar and Hotel Association Board does not hurt these efforts! More on developments as things progress. And, yes, wooden tokens from the Trials and USATF's have been "grandfathered in" for acceptance at the NCAA's!
Well, now you know....more later!
I Hope to See All of You in Eugene June 9-12!
Take Care....

Keith Conning: I have enjoyed stopping by after the meet. You will meet a lot of coaches, both young and old like me. Peanut is the cross country and track coach at El Dorado High School in Placerville. He is a graduate of John Swett High School in Crockett, California, which is near the C&H Sugar Factory on the Carquinez Strait.
"Peanut Harms sports an impressive superstar resume, competing for the Aggies racing team, and having been a longtime track coach, including once being a coach for the Nigerian Olympic team and for the U.S. track team. He is a member of the UC Davis Athletic Hall of Fame. Peanut Harms and the Aggies reserve a special place in San Francisco running history for introducing centipede racing (13 runners linked by nylon banner) to Bay to Breakers in 1978."
