Lewy Boulet sets personal best at Rotterdam Marathon
Magdalena Lewy Boulet set a personal best time and made a significant leap up the all-time U.S. women's marathoners list thanks to her runner-up finish Sunday at the 2010 Fortis Rotterdam Marathon.
The runner-up at the 2008 Olympic Trials - Women's Marathon, Lewy Boulet crossed the finish line in 2 hours 26 minutes 22 seconds, which shattered her previous personal best of 2:30:19 (2008) and makes her the #4 U.S. women's marathoner of all-time trailing only Deena Kastor, Joan Benoit Samuelson and Kara Goucher.
Lewy Boulet also ran well on March 28 at the 2010 World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, where she finished 20th in the individual competition in helping the Team USA women's squad win the bronze medal.
Barron batters U.S Junior record
U.S. race walking up-and-comer Trevor Barron set a new U.S. Junior men's 10 km road record Sunday at the 2010 IAAF World Race Walk Cup Trials in Ronkonkoma, N.Y. Walk USA, the Long Island Association of USA Track & Field and the Sachem Central School District combined to host the event.
Barron, who also owns the U.S. Junior men's 10 km track record, set the 10 km road AR when he crossed the finish line first in 43 minutes 5 seconds. Barron's performance bettered the previous standard of 43:16 set by Will Van Axen in 1993. Earlier this year, Barron set the U.S. Junior 20 km record (1:31:10) in what remains the fastest time in that event by an American this year.
Tyler Sorenson finished as the runner-up in the Junior men's race in 45:04, with Alejandro Chavez placing third in 47:19.
In the senior men's 20 km race, Patrick Stroupe won convincingly in 1:32:10, with Tim Seaman the runner-up in 1:36:29 and Dan Serianni finishing third in 1:38:26.
The top three finishing Americans in the women's 20 km were Maria Michta (1:43:46), Solomiya Login (1:44:05) and Miranda Melville (1:47:32). Canada's Rachel Seaman was the overall winner in 1:39:25.
The Junior Women's 10 km race was won by Rachel Zoyhofski in 55:12, with Nicolette Sorenson finishing as the runner-up in 57:04 and Erika Shaver placing third in 57:46.
