ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Luisa Musika (Milpitas, Calif., Milpitas HS) provisionally qualified for the 2010 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in the weight throw on Saturday, leading the San Francisco State women’s track and field team at the Cherry and Silver Invitational hosted by the University of New Mexico at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Musika finished fifth in the event with a career-best distance of 53 feet, 1.50 inches, which ranks second on the Gators’ all-time indoor performance list. The mark also puts the SF State sophomore in 17th place nationally thus far in 2010, behind the standard of Ashland College’s Tara Cooper (60-05.25).

Fellow classmate Alicia Chambers (Roseville, Calif., Oakmont HS) found her way onto the Gator indoor career charts as well, tying a school record in the 200 meters with a time of 25.26 seconds—the first time she ever ran the event indoors. Earlier in the day, Chambers logged a personal-best time of 7.78 seconds in the preliminaries of the 100 meters, which ranks second in SF State history.

Elsewhere, the Gators received a top-10 performance from another sophomore, Felicia Terwilliger (Eureka, Calif., Warwick (R.I.) West HS), who placed eighth in the high jump with a clearance of 5-04.25, while freshman Samantha Eggert (Lincoln, Calif., Del Oro HS) recorded a personal-best time of 59.50 in the 400 meters.

SF State resumes its indoor schedule in two weeks when it heads back to Albuquerque for the New Mexico Classic on Saturday, Feb. 6.
