Clayton named Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - High School standout Jen Clayton (Suffern, N.Y.) has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the girls long jump Saturday at the Hispanic Games at The New Balance Track and Field Center at the 168th Street Armory in New York City.

The 2009 World Youth bronze medalist, Clayton won the girls long jump with a leap of 6.24m/20-5.75. It is the leading high school mark so far this year and sits ninth on the all-time high school list. The mark also qualified Clayton for the 2010 USA Indoor Track & Field Championships to be held in Albuquerque, N.M. in February.

Now in its ninth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.

Winners: January 13, Jen Clayton.
