Krupicka named Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Anton Krupicka has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after successfully defending his title at the 2009 USA 50 Mile Trail Championship at the White River 50 Mile Run.

A native of Colorado Springs, Colo., Krupicka, 25, established a new course record with his winning time of 6 hours 32 minutes 9 seconds, besting the previous mark by 34 seconds at the July 25 race in Crystal Mountain, Wash. The previous record of 6:32:43 was set by Seattle's Uli Steidl in 2004.

Now in its eighth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
