Robert John Baker, born in Battle Creek, Michigan on April 15, 1929, passed on June 26, 2017 from complications from pneumonia in Roseville. Known by all as Bob, he came to Sacramento as an Army Sergeant in the Military Police at McClellan Air Force Base. During his Army days, he met Genevieve (Jenny) Blackwell, who became his loving wife of 63 years before her passing in 2011. After the Army, Bob worked as a carpenter and salesman before beginning his career in the Sacramento County Building Inspection Department, advancing to the position of Manager Code Enforcement. Additionally, he taught carpentry and uniform-building-code classes at all of the local community colleges. During the mid to late 1960's, he was the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 335. Many weekends were spent camping, boating, and fishing with his family. After retiring, Bob and Jenny toured every state in America and all but one province in Canada. Trips to Europe and cruises followed, including a cruise from Florida to San Francisco via the Panama Canal. Bob is survived by his son, Bob, a retired English teacher and coach at Manteca, Elk Grove, and Sheldon High Schools, and his wife Suzanne of Elk Grove; his daughter, Debbie Davis, a Quality System Specialist at CEi, and her husband, Ron, of Roseville; his grandson, Chris Davis, a Staff Programmer Analyst with the State of California, his wife, Jennifer, and their sons (and his great grandsons), Joshua and Robert (Bobby); and his friend, Marge Jones, of Roseville. Bob's family greatly misses him. A visitation will be held on Monday, July 10, 2017 at 5PM with an evening funeral service to follow at 6PM. The entombment will take place the following day at 10AM. Both at East Lawn Mortuary & Sierra Hills Memorial Park 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento, CA 95841.
