Robinson, Valles Garner Weekly Honors from the American
Robinson named women’s track athlete of the week; Valles selected for men’s field

CINCINNATI - The American Athletic Conference has announced its weekly honors with two members of the University of Cincinnati track and field program earning recognition for their impressive results over the weekend at the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington. Bryana Robinson was selected as the American Women’s Track Athlete of the Week while Adrian Valles was tabbed as the American Men’s Field Athlete of the Week.

Robinson had a fantastic showing on the track as she blazed the track in the 400m dash for a time of 53.70 that placed her third overall in the race and first among collegiate entries. Her time lowered the school record from 53.73 that Kenya Woodall ran in 2015 and also currently ranks her second in the NCAA ranks in 2017. The sophomore, who also ran a personal-best time of 7.74 in the 60m dash, also holds a place on the current world lists as the conference’s fastest 400m runner as she is currently ranked third in the world.

Valles also came away from Kentucky with another strong performance, this time clearing 5.43m (17-09.75) to win the event and move up higher on the national descending order list. That mark ties his season best from one year ago and ranks third all-time in UC history behind his own clearances of 5.48m and 5.45m during the 2015 indoor season. His 5.43m clearance over the weekend is currently the sixth-best in the NCAA this season and also ties him for 31st in the world.

The honors for Robinson and Valles are the second and third awards earned by the Bearcats this year after Annette Echikunwoke took home women’s field honors in December following her school-record performance in the weight throw at the Hoosier Open.

The Bearcats return to action this weekend (January 20-21) as the team will compete in the Gladstein Invitational in Bloomington, Ind. The meet, hosted by Indiana University, will take place all day Friday and Saturday inside the Gladstein Fieldhouse.
