2016 NCAA DI Women’s XC All-Region Honorees Announced

NEW ORLEANS — The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) is pleased to announce the women who earned All-Region honors for the 2016 season.
These 225 women garnered the distinction by finishing among the top-25 individual finishers at one of the nine regional sites across the country. Only athletes competing for USTFCCCA member institutions are eligible for the award.

Two teams proved deep enough to have seven All-Region honorees: No. 1 Colorado and No. 7 Arkansas.
The Buffs stampeded over the Mountain Region Championships in Logan, Utah, scoring just 35 points. Kaitlyn Benner, Mackenzie Caldwell, Erin Clark, Dani Jones, Makena Morley, Melanie Nun and Tabor Scholl all finished in the top-25 as Colorado punched its 26th ticket to NCAAs in program history.
Like the Buffs, the Razorbacks stood out at the South Central Region Championships. Depth paced Arkansas past Baylor as Sydney Brown, Devin Clark, Abby Gray, Valerie Reina, Carina Viljoen, Regan Ward and Taylor Werner all found their way into the top-25.
No team had six All-Region honorees, but seven had five: No. 2 NC State (Southeast Region champion), No. 3 Providence (Northeast Region champion), No. 5 Michigan (Great Lakes Region champion), No. 7 Stanford (West Region champion), No. 9 Penn State (Mid-Atlantic Region champion), No. 14 Ole Miss (South Region runner-up) and RV Mississippi State (South Region champion).
The SEC led all conferences with 28 All-Region honorees as it outpaced both the Big 12 (26) and Pac-12 (26). The Big 12 was the only other conference with more than 20 nods.
The 2016 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships will be contested Saturday, November 19 in Terre Haute, Indiana at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. The meet will be broadcast live online at NCAA.com.
Regional Athletes of the Year and Regional Coaches of the Year will be announced Tuesday.
