XTERRA Trail Run World Titles Up for Grabs in 2012
KUALOA RANCH, Hawaii - The XTERRA Trail Run World Championship is up for grabs this year.
This year's event is scheduled for Sunday, December 2 at Kualoa Ranch, Hawaii, and in the unpredictable sport of trail running, this much is certain - there will be new champions.
Oregon's Max King is the only runner to win the men's title at XTERRA Trail Run World Championship. The event was created in 2008, and he has won it every year. King's reign will come to an end this year, as he will stay in Oregon with his wife for the expected birth of their second child in early December.
The women's division is also in search of a new queen, as 2011 champion Morgan Arritola will not enter this year due to injuries and other schedule conflicts.
Find out who will be contending for the title this weekend in King and Arritola's absence - read the rest of the story at RunningUSA.org
2012 Baltimore Running Festival Economic Impact: $38.6 Million
BALTIMORE - The 12th edition of the Under Armour Baltimore Running Festival contributed an estimated $38.6 million to the city's economy according to a recent study by RESI, an economic research and consulting firm located at Towson University. This year the event attracted a record 26,100 runners, marking the 10th consecutive year of 10-15% growth from the year prior. In all, 50 states and 24 countries were represented in the 2012 field.
"We are the largest participatory event in the entire state in 2012 to date, so with that comes one big tourism welcome mat" stated Lee Corrigan, the event's Executive Director and President of Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE). "We also received a 95% approval rating in our annual post event runner survey, so we share this glory with the thousands of people who make this event possible including city and state agencies, sponsors, runners, volunteers and fans."
The charitable proceeds generated by the October 13th event totaled $1.7 million, shattering the event's previous single-year mark of $1.06 million (2010).

Sponsorship Spending on Endurance Sports to Total $102 Million in 2012
CHICAGO - These are good days for endurance sports events.
North American sponsorship spending on marathons, triathlons and related events is expected to total $102.1 million in 2012, up 6.7 percent from $95.7 million in 2011, according to IEG, the world's leading authority on sponsorship.
The increase outpaces IEG's projected 4.1 percent increase for the overall sponsorship industry in 2012 and 6.4 percent increase for the entire sports category.
IEG Sponsorship Report senior editor William Chipps points to three primary factors driving the increase in spending: The growing number of endurance sports participants, an affluent audience base and rising interest in health and wellness.

Running USA data featured in USA Today
Did you know that Thanksgiving Day is the single largest day for Americans to finish a road race all year long?
Running USA data used in a USA Today infographic published on Wednesday, Nov. 21 shows a steady rise in Turkey Day run participation over the last four years.
The trend mirrors the ongoing Second Running Boom, which has been driven by record participation levels from female recreational runners. In 2011, there were nearly 14 million finishers of road races in the U.S., with a record 55% female participation rate, according to Running USA's
State of the Sport Report.
There were 676,000 finishers in U.S. Turkey Trots 2011; making it the #1 race day in America.
