DIII National Poll: MIT Women Back To The Top
October 10, 2012
NEW ORLEANS – The women’s team at MIT jumped back to No. 1 In the latest national coaches’ poll of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for NCAA Division III cross country.
MIT was No. 1 back on September 19 and returns to the top spot after an impressive performance at last weekend’s NEICAAA Championships. The Engineers are sharing first-place votes with now-No. 2 Johns Hopkins. The Blue Jays of JHU won the women’s race at the DIII Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind.
In the men’s poll, defending national champions North Central (Ill.) remains No. 1 for the 22nd-straight voting week.
Also in the men’s poll, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps joins the top ten for the first time this year, jumping 11 spots to land at No. 10. The Stags were winners of the DIII Pre-National Invitational, last weekend, defeating 29 other teams – four of which were nationally ranked.
Carnegie Mellon climbed from No. 35 to No. 16 this week on the heels of taking the top team spot at their home invitational last Saturday.
Trinity (Texas) makes their women’s poll debut at No. 23 this week. The Tigers finished fifth at the Pre-National meet last weekend.
