STANFORD –
The California track and field team gained six more regional qualifiers in the second and final day of the Stanford Invitational Saturday at Cobb Track & Angell Field on the Stanford campus. The Golden Bears also won five events on Saturday, as well. The six regional qualifiers were the women's 4x100- and 4x400-meter relays, sophomore Allison Stokke in the pole vault, senior Martin Maric in the discus, senior Francis Gadayan in the 800 and sophomore Cherrelle Garrett in the 200.
On Friday The California track and field team opened competition at the Stanford Invitational with seven NCAA Regional qualifiers. The seven qualifiers for the Golden Bears were sophomore Cherrelle Garrett in the 100, senior Brook Turner in the 400, freshman Debra Maier in the 5000, senior Jordan Paul in the 110-meter hurdles, senior Jake Hanson in the 400-meter hurdles, junior Ryan Young in the javelin and junior Yosef Ghebray in the 10,000. Ghebray's time of 28:32.27 was an automatic qualifier and also set a new school record, surpassing the old time of 29:17.78 by Girmay Guangul.
Freshman Brian Carmichael took top honors in the high jump with a mark of 6-8.75 (2.05m).
Turner took third in the 400 with her time of 54.39. Although she was the only regional qualifier in that event, Cal posted strong scores, as senior Kandi Bonty and sophomore Kayla Dixon placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Bonty's time was 54.64 and Dixon's was 55.31.
Garrett was a two-time winner on Saturday, capturing first place in both the 100 meters and the 200. In the 100, she posted a season-best time of 11.60, which was also a regional-qualifying time, besting her previous regional-qualifying time of 11.73 in prelims yesterday. In the 200, Garrett clocked a personal-best time of 23.63, just shy of fifth on Cal's all-time career list (23.62).
Both the Cal men's and women's 4x400-meter relays were victorious. The women tallied a regional-qualifying time of 3:39.04, while the men notched a time of 3:11.88. The women's 4x100 relay took second with a regional-qualifying time of 45.24.
Maric took top honors in the discus, collecting a regional-qualifying mark of 191-06 (58.37m).

Senior Kellan Patterson also turned in a second-place performance, clocking in at 10.65 in the 100. Gadayan placed fifth in the 800 with his regional-qualifying time of 1:50.09.
Cal will next compete in the Sacramento State Elite Meet on Saturday, April 4, in Sacramento.
