Beach named Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Curtis Beach has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the men's decathlon Saturday at the Arcadia Invitational in Arcadia, Calif.
The fourth-place finisher in the boys' octathlon at the 2007 World Youth Championships, Beach dominated the decathlon, winning nine of the ten events, and ending with a score of 7,909 points. His nearest competitor was over 1,500 points back. Beach had winning marks in the 100m (10.99), 400m (48.16), 1500m (4:09.48), 110mH (14.42), high jump (2.07m/6-9.5), long jump (6.97m/22-10.5), shot put (13.61m/44-8), pole vault (4.40m/14-5.25) and javelin (47.48m/155-9) and was second in the discus (43.40m/142-5)

Now in its eighth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
