A Farwell, Nebraska, woman who was struck in the head by a discus at the state track meet in 2014 will receive a $350,000 payout from the Omaha Public Schools and the Nebraska State Activities Association.
According to a lawsuit filed in 2015, Bernice Gorecki, now 83, was a spectator at the annual track meet at Burke High School, an OPS school. She was standing in the portion of the field designated for visitors during warmups for the Class D boys competition when she was hit in the head by a discus thrown by a student-athlete.
