Only two sports are older than track and field at Stanford, and one of them, football, was not played for more than a decade in the early 1900s. Therefore, only baseball, which began in 1892, has a longer continuous tradition at Stanford.
Which brings us to the 123rd Big Meet, on Saturday (field events at 2 p.m., running events at 3:15 p.m.) at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
