Calm Before The Storm In NCAA DIII XC Regional Rankings

Calm Before The Storm In NCAA DIII XC Regional Rankings

By Tyler Mayforth, USTFCCCA
October 11, 2016

NEW ORLEANS — One word best described this past weekend in NCAA Division III Cross Country: "Idle."
With a busy weekend of meets coming up and the postseason quickly approaching, teams across the nation decided to kick their feet up and take a load off. Because of that, there were minimal changes to the latest Regional Rankings, released Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
QUICK LINKSRegional Rankings Summary PDF | Men’s Rankings | Women’s Rankings | Rankings Central
Any movement truly transpired in the women’s rankings, where 14 teams — most in the bottom half of their respective regions — shifted around. That’s a staggering number compared to the five men’s teams that did the same.
The biggest gainer in either poll was that of the York (Pa.) men, who jumped from outside the top-10 to No. 6 in the Mideast Region. The Spartans competed at the DeSales Invitational this past weekend and finished runner-up behind nationally-ranked Dickinson. York (Pa.) packed up well at the front as Andy MacGibbon, Alex Smith and Grant Dell went 9-10-11 as the squad scored 75 points.
So what are those big meets this weekend?
We’ll list them for you, along with the respective host school.
  • Little Three Championship — Wesleyan (Conn.)
  • Great Lakes Inter-Regional Rumble — Oberlin
  • Inter-Regional Border Battle — Rowan
  • Jim Drews/Tori Neubauer Invitational — UW-La Crosse
  • AAE Invitational — UW-Oshkosh
This will be a great appetizer for about one month from now when the NCAA Division III Regional Cross Country Championships are held across the nation on November 12.
The following weekend the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships will be held at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park in Louisville, Kentucky.
Scroll below for full Regional Rankings, including the top-10 teams in each respective region.
