    MEN AND WOMEN EACH PLACE 9TH AT BIG SKY CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

    MOSCOW, Idaho —
    The Sacramento State men's and women's teams placed ninth at the Big Sky Conference Cross Country Championships on Friday at Idaho Golf Course.

    The men were tightly packed with all five of its scorers finishing within a minute of one another. Ricardo Avila led the team by placing 39th with a time of 26:14.3. Sam Scheuer was nearly two seconds behind (26:16.1) to finish 42nd. Ryan Salcido ranked third on the team and was 50th overall in 26:31.7. The Hornets also counted times of 26:32.9 from Elijah Changco and 27:03.9 from Juan Valeirio who finished 51st and 65th, respectively.

    The women's team was led by Amy Quinones who ran 18:05.3 over the 5K course to finish 11th overall and miss earning all-Big Sky honors (top 10 finishers) by less than a second. Her time was easily the best on the team and placed her 28.1 seconds ahead of Gracie Albano who placed 28th in 18:33.4. Haley Heinemann ran 18:56.6 (42nd place) but the team's next finisher did not cross the line until over a minute later as Emma Armstrong ran 19:59.2 to place 74th. Amelia Pear completed the scorers by running 20:23.9 to finish 80th.

    Northern Arizona won the men's and women's team titles. The Lumberjack men, which are ranked first in the latest national polls, swept the top six spots in the men's 8K race and compiled a perfect score of 15 points. Southern Utah was second with 48 while Weber State was third at 92. Idaho State and Idaho each scored 164 points.

    The NAU women totaled 48 points to finish 12 points ahead of Weber State (60). Southern Utah (99), Idaho (115) and Montana (136) wrapped up the top five.

    Sacramento State will have a limited number of competitors take part in the Doc Adams Invitational next week at UC Davis. The team will then host the NCAA West Regional on Friday, Nov. 11, at Haggin Oaks Golf Course.
