RIO DE JANEIRO – Air Force track and field alumnus Cale Simmons concluded his Olympic run this evening (Aug. 13) during the qualifying round of the pole vault at Olympic Stadium in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. With a clearance of 17’4½”, the 2013 Academy graduate tied for 28th in the opening round. The event was delayed nearly a half hour due to an issue with one of the standards on the pit for Group A. But, once the competition got underway, Simmons was one of the first vaulters to compete. He entered on the opening height (17’4½”), clearing that bar on his third attempt. He was unable to advance past 17’10½”, tying for 13th in his group and 28th overall.
