Highlighted by a record-breaking performance in the triple jump, the Boston University men's track & field team recorded nine top-10 finishes at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday.
The run away star of the meet was junior David Oluwadara, who broke the Boston University record in the triple jump that had stood for 31 years. The Boston, Mass. native jumped 16.06 meters (52'8.25"), breaking Duane Carlisle's 52' 5" (15.97m) school record set way back in 1985. The 16.06 meters stands as the seventh-best jump in the nation this season.
The record-breaking performance by Oluwadara eclipsed several other remarkable performances by the Terriers. Competing in the 400 meter dash, senior David Lagerberg finished third in a field of 190 runners with an incredible time of 46.88. The time was a personal best for Lagerberg and the third-best time ever run by a Terrier in the 400m. Lagerberg's time also stands as the 22nd fastest in the country this season.
Junior Cameron Williams continued his fantastic indoor season, posting a time of 20.97 in the 200 meter dash, good for second place overall in a field of 209 runners. The time was just a shade off Williams' school-record time of 20.88 set back on Jan. 30th, which still stands as the tenth-fastest time in the nation this season.
Junior Matti Groll also got in on the act, posting a personal-best time of 2:24.09 in the 1000 meter run to take third overall in a field of 83.
Other top performers on the day included junior Justin Flynn, who competed in the 60 meter dash and finished with a time of 6.96 to take eighth overall in a field of 95. Cameron Williams also competed in the 60 meter dash and finished twelfth with a time of 7.00.
Junior Ethan Homan competed in the 800 meters and finished with a strong time of 1:51.62, good for 12th place in a field of 241 runners. Homan also made his debut in the 1 mile and finished with a time of 4:06.19, good for 20th place in a large field of 316.
Top performers in the field included senior Ethan Knight, who won the shot put competition with a 16.84 meter (55'3") toss. Senior Nikolaos Farmakidis took fifth in the pole vault with a 4.80 meter (15'9") effort. Senior Reuben Horace took fourth in the weight throw with a 19.22 meter (63'7") throw.
In addition to his record-breaking performance, David Oluwadara also finished 9th in the long jump with a 6.87 meter jump (22'6.4").
The Terriers will now prepare for next week's Patriot League Championships which they will host at the TTC Feb. 19-21.
