Obituary
Joseph Dedora


Born November 11, 1952, passed away on February 27, 2012 at his home in Santa Rosa, CA. He is survived by his wife Mary Angel "Angie" DeDora, his sister Kathy DeDora of Atwater, sister-in-law Julie DeDora and his daughter Shannon DeDora of Reno, NV. Joe had an extended family of five step-children, Yvonne, Scott, Tina, Susan and Misty. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the proud grandfather of 21 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Joe is preceded in death by his oldest daughter Rebecca "Becky" DeDora and his brother Thomas DeDora. Joe was 59. A member of the community for 44 years, Joe graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1971. Joe was one of the NBL's top track athletes, still holding records at Santa Rosa High School. He received a full scholarship to UC Berkeley where he attended for one year. Joe worked in the retail business for years and will be best remembered for his competitive chess games with his friends.

Had five 400’s at a converted sub 48.

1971 NBL won 100y 9.6, LJ 22-8, Mile Relay 3:26.3 and 440 at a converted 400 of 48.06,which still stands as NBL meet record.
1970 won NBL 220 21.6 and 440 49.1
Before DeDora Empire 440 record was 49.7 Charles Keturakat Santa Rosa 1968.
In 1970 DeDora lowered that all the way to 47.9.
1971 ran 47.3 which converts to a 47.17 400m which lasted as record for 24 years until Corey Nelson, Rancho Cotate 1995 ran 46.89 . His mark was also fastest ever run in the NCS and held up until 1976."

Dedora's converted time is listed at 47.17 in the article. The NCS all tyime list should reflect that time, not 47.24

did you know De Dora ran a 46.3 and 46.5 relay legs? I did the research- scalding!

A quarter miler can usually run about .9 faster with a running start.
