McCullough named Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Conor McCullough has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after setting an American Junior record in the men's hammer throw Sunday at the 2010 IAAF World Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada.

The reigning USA Junior champion and a silver medalist at this meet in 2008, McCullough crushed the meet record and his own American Junior record (AJR) in winning the hammer with a massive personal best of 80.79m/265-0 on his second attempt to add more than eight feet to his previous AJR. He set the previous record of 78.28m/256-10 when he won the USA Junior title this year.

Now in its ninth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
