Flotrack.org Discusses The Husky Freshmen

SEATTLE - When the Husky cross country teams report to campus on Monday, the women's freshman class will have the distinction of being the top-ranked group in the nation. Flotrack.org finished unveiling its top-five women's recruiting classes today, and the young group of new Dawgs were pegged No. 1.

According to the website, there was little doubt as to who the top spot would go to. "[Washington's] class is far and away the best, no ifs, ands, or buts," said Flotrack.

The rest of the top-five was made up of No. 2 Virginia, No. 3 Stanford, No. 4 UCLA, and No. 5 Georgetown.

Flotrack highlighted incoming freshmen Megan Goethals, Katie Flood, Chloe Curtis, Megan Morgan, Liberty Miller, and Mackenzie Carter. The group comes to Seattle from all around the country with Goethals hailing from Michigan, Flood from Iowa, Carter from New York, and Curtis, Morgan, and Miller all from California.

Goethals is the Gatorade National Cross Country Athlete of the Year and won the 2009 Footlocker Cross Country National Championship along with a pair of 2-mile national titles on the track. Flood, Morgan, and Miller were all Top-20 finishers at Footlocker, and Flood also won the 2009 Nike Team Nationals individual championship as well as multiple Iowa State and Drake Relay titles.

Curtis is the California State Champ at 1,600-meters and also led the U.S. at 800-meters for much of the past season, while Miller and Morgan were the top two senior finishers at the California state meet over 3,200-meters, taking second and third, respectively. Carter's Fayetteville-Manlius high school won the team race at Nike Team Nationals and she also ran on FM's national champion 4x800-meter relay group in the spring.







Washington's cross country season begins a bit earlier this year with a special new dual meet against Washington State, held in Ephrata, Washington on September 3. The first home appearance for many of the new Huskies will be Sept. 18 with the Sundodger Invitational at Lincoln Park in West Seattle.
