Americans win in Lausanne

U.S. stars Walter Dix, Jeremy Wariner, Bershawn Jackson, Carmelita Jeter, Debbie Dunn and Brittney Reese all won their respective events Thursday at the 2010 Athletissima in Lausanne, Switzerland.

2008 Olympic bronze medalist and 2010 USA Outdoor Championships runner-up Walter Dix won the men's 200 meters with his time of 19.86 seconds, which equals the fourth-fastest time in the world this year, which was posted by Dix from his June 6 Diamond League win in Rome .

Dix, who posted the second-fastest time in the world this year of 19.72 from his win Saturday at the Nike Prefontaine Classic, finished ahead of Churandy Martina (AHO) who was the runner-up in 20.08. Xavier Carter, who finished third last month at the USA Outdoor Champs in Des Moines, Iowa, was third again this afternoon in 20.15.

2004 Olympic gold medalist and two-time World Outdoor champion Jeremy Wariner was the victor in the men's 400 meters, crossing the finish line in 44.57 seconds, which is the fastest time in the world this year. LeJerald Betters, who was the runner-up last month at the USA Championships, finished second in 44.70, with Jermaine Gonzales of Jamaica placing third in 44.72.

2005 World Outdoor champion and reigning national champion Bershawn Jackson posted the second-fastest time in the world this year in winning the 400m hurdles in 47.62 seconds. Jackson clocked the world-leading time of 47.32 in winning his third consecutive U.S. title last month in Des Moines. Two-time Olympic gold medalist Angelo Taylor was the runner-up in 47.96, with Felix Sanchez of the Dominican Republic finishing third in 48.17.

In women's events, two-time World Outdoor Championships bronze medalist and 2009 USA Outdoor champion Carmelita Jeter had little difficulty in winning the 100 meters in 10.99 seconds. Sherone Simpson of Jamaica was the runner-up in 11.15, with Chandra Sturrup of The Bahamas finishing third in 11.18.

The women's 400 meters was won by 2009 USA Outdoor Championships runner-up and reigning national champion Debbie Dunn, who stopped the clocks in 49.81 seconds, which is the second-fastest time in the world this year. Dunn posted the world-leading time of 49.64 in winning the first USA Outdoor title of her career last month in Des Moines. Dunn is the only woman in the world to break the 50-second barrier this outdoor season. Jamaicans Shericka Williams and Novlene Williams-Mills finished second and third respectively, with both crossing the finish line in 50.04.

Reigning World Indoor and Outdoor champion Brittney Reese had little difficulty in winning the women's long jump with a best of 6.94 meters/22 feet 9.25 inches, which equals the fourth-best performance in the world this outdoor season.

Reese, who won her third-consecutive national outdoor long jump title in June, finished well ahead of Portugal's Naide Gomes, who was the runner-up with a best of 6.80m/22-3.75, and third-place finisher Tatyana Kotova of Russia, who had a best leap of 6.70m/21-11.75.
