Thurmond, Tollefson to appear on Source4Women online seminars

Olympians Aretha Thurmond and Carrie Tollefson will appear on two separate Source4Women fully interactive online seminars where they will discuss methods for choosing healthier lifestyles.

A four-time USA women's discus throw champion and 2008 Olympic Games finalist, Thurmond will appear on Tuesday, December 15 beginning at 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Questions she will help listeners address include: Have you been thinking about making some changes in your own life? Are you worried about a family history of heart disease or diabetes? Do you want to become more active, and live a healthier lifestyle?

"I am really excited about being part of United Health Care's Source4Women webinar," said Thurmond. "It's a great opportunity for me to share my health passion with more than just my immediate surroundings."

2004 Olympic women's 10,000m competitor Carrie Tollefson will appear on Tuesday, January 12 beginning at 12:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Tollefson will tell her own personal story and give some practical advice to assist viewers on their own journey. Tollefson also will explain the benefits to having a personal trainer that can assist in helping individuals reach their fitness goals.

"I enjoy speaking to groups of all kinds about healthy lifestyle issues, having a "no-float" attitude in life regardless of your age or profession, and just getting people excited about living their life to the fullest," said Tollefson. "I was contacted about this opportunity by a former healthcare executive who, as a track fan, recognizes the positive impact that running can have on health and fitness."

Kamloops to host World Masters Indoor Championships

The 2010 WMA World Masters Indoor Athletics Championships will take place in Kamloops, British Columbia, March 1-6.
This will be the first time the WMA Indoor Championships will be held in North America, and more than 2,000 athletes will compete in a full range of track and field disciplines, including race walking, cross-country and the half marathon.

The majority of the championships will be held at the Tournament Capital Centre, a state-of-the-art facility that has received rave reviews. In March 2008, a men's 4x400-metre relay team from Surrey, B.C., set a world record in the men's 60-69 age group on the very track to be used at the WMA Championships. The distance races will be held against the backdrop of the mountains that surround Kamloops and the river that runs through it.

The WMA Championships themselves will feature several social events including a western-themed Athletes' Party on March 3. For just $25, athletes will be treated to a meal, entertainment and music. Athletes may also look forward to enjoying a Beer Garden in the Athletes' Village, which is a 300-metre walk from the event centre. The opening ceremony for the championships will feature a wild-west history of Kamloops.

Those travelling to Kamloops for the championships should visit www.kamloops2010masters.com for a link to accommodation providers.

National masters associations must submit their country's registrations by Jan. 9, 2010. Interested parties wishing to register for the 2010 WMA Championships should sign up with their national associations as soon as possible, to allow for processing time by the registration deadline.
