Lutz named Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Marcus High School junior Craig Lutz (Dallas, Texas) has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the Nike Cross National Championships Saturday in Portland, Ore.

The Texas Class 5A state cross country champ, Lutz won the men's title in a course record 15 minutes 9.2 seconds. After taking the early lead in the race and then falling back into the pack, a late surge in the final few meters of the race saw Lutz edge past New Jersey's Joe Rosa for the win. Lutz's next race will be this weekend at the Foot Locker Cross Country Championships.

Now in its eighth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
