Brown Track & Field Competes at URI Invitational, Armory Invite

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's and women's track & field teams both turned in second-places at the URI Coaches Tribute Meet on Saturday, while several select jumpers competed at the Armory Track Invitational in New York City.
URI Coaches Tribute MeetAt the URI meet, the women's team was second with 140 total points, led by four individual first-place finishes. 
Senior Charlotte Walmsley (Weston, Mass.) placed first in the 1,000 meters in a time of 3:01.95. Sophomore Jeanine Noordam (San Jose, Calif.) was runner-up in the 500 meters at 1:15.17 for 10th all-time in Brown history.
In the field, sophomore Carly Paul won the high jump with a cleared height of 5-07.25 for ninth-best all-time. Rachel Van Metre (Swarthmore, Pa.) captured the triple jump with a leap of 36-04.00 and Michelle Bazile (Princeton, N.J.) claimed the weight throw with a toss of 53-04.25.
On the men's side, the Bears took second with 120 total points and three top individual finishes. Rookie Owen Russell (Attleboro, Mass.) won the weight throw with a personal best toss of 60-05.75 for sixth all-time.
On the track, Ryan Kelly (Greenwich, Conn.) ran to a first-place finish in the 400 meters as he crossed the line in a time of 49.26. Sophomore Zack Emrich (North Kingstown, R.I.) captured first place in the 500 meters at 1:04.16.
Armory Track InviteSenior O'Sha Williams (Jamaica, N.Y.) paced the Bears at the Armory as she placed fifth overall in the triple jump with a leap of 41-07.25. Her mark was second all-time in program history and the best in the Ivy League this season. 
The track & field teams return to action next weekend for the Boston University Valentine Invitational.
