Jan. 9, 2016 Complete Results ANNAPOLIS, Md – Despite eight first-place performances and 16 IC4A-qualifying marks, the Navy men’s track and field team fell short to Princeton, 95.5-85.5, on Saturday at the Wesley A. Brown Field House. Senior Jordan Sartor-Francis (Jonesboro, Ga.) and sophomore John Campbell (Amarillo, Texas) each led Navy with two IC4A-qualifying performances at Saturday’s meet.
“I thought we did a good job as far as competing and the performances that we had today, given that we are coming back from the holidays,” Navy head coach Stephen Cooksey said. “We will try and build off this from here. The big thing will be to keep guys healthy and not lose any training time the next few weeks leading up to Army and the Patriot League Championship meet.”
On the track, Navy looked to be in mid-season form, recording nine IC4A-qualifying marks and six of its eight first-place finishes. Sartor-Francis had strong finishes in the 60-meter and 200-meter dash. The senior sprinter finished first in the 200m dash with a time of 21.58 and then clocked a 6.94 in the 60m dash for second place.
Freshman Kordell Williams (Upper Marlboro, Md.) recorded his second-straight first-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles to begin his career. Williams’ crossed the tape at 8.17, which was .09 seconds off his first time in December. Senior Austin Batiste (Long Beach, Calif.) placed first and improved on his 400-meter dash time from a month ago, clocking in at 48.17 seconds.
Junior Nate Gainey (Ellicott City, Md.) edged out his Princeton counterpart Franklin Aririguzoh for first place in the 500-meter run by 0.14 seconds. Gainey crossed the tape at 1:06.38.

 


 

From start to finish, senior Steve Schroeder (Monticello, Ill.) led the six-runner mile race and finished with a first-place mark of 4:05.68. Schroeder not only finished four seconds ahead of the next competitor but broke his personal-best mark by 3.9 seconds.
Navy’s 4x400-meter relay team of Dean Williams, Glen Harris, Gainey and Batiste outran Princeton’s squad by 6.75 seconds, crossing the tape at 3:18.68.
Campbell began the meet with back-to-back IC4A-qualifying marks in the weight throw and the shot put. The sophomore thrower finished second in the weight throw with a toss of 60ft-8.5in (18.50m) and followed up with a fourth-place mark in the shot put at 53ft-6.5in (16.32m).
Sophomore Tyler Russell (Fort Collins, Colo.) had a strong day at the high jump, clearing the bar with a first-place finish of 6ft-9.5in (2.07m). Senior Jiles Maness and junior Jon Drablos finished 1-2 in the pole vault, as Maness cleared the bar at 16ft-8.75in (5.10m) for first and Drablos finished with a mark of 16ft-4.75in (5.00m).
Navy will travel to the Great Dane Invitational in Staten Island, New York on Saturday. The meet will begin at 10 a.m.
