LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Florida track and field program opened its 2016 season at the Rod McCravy Memorial on Friday (Jan. 22), and sophomore KeAndre Bates wasted no time re-establishing himself among the nation's top jumpers.

On his sixth and final attempt of the evening, Bates leapt 7.73 meters (25-4.5) to take runner-up honors in the men's long jump. Among marks posted prior to today's competition, the El Paso, Texas native's jump was the fourth-best by a Division I athlete and the 11th-longest on the world indoor top 20.

Only Marquise Goodwin, the 2015 Pan American Games silver medalist who competed unattached, topped Bates.

The men's 600-yard run was arguably day one's most exciting event, as the top six times were all within 1.6 seconds of each other. Three Gators—Eric Futch (second), Nick Uruburu (fourth), TJ Holmes (sixth)—secured top-six finishes.

SEC Network Plus on Watch ESPN will provide live coverage of Saturday's (Jan. 23) competition, starting at 12 p.m. ET and ending once the meet concludes.
