FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The UCLA track and field team completed the first day of action at the Razorback Invitational, Friday from the Randal Tyson Track Complex.
Freshman Rai Benjamin showed his experience on the indoor oval with a third place finish in the 200m with a time of 21.17. He ran the 400m leg of the DMR where he split a 47.10 that finished sixth with a time of 9:38.77.
The 9:38.77 by the UCLA DMR was the seventh fastest time in school history. Ferdinand Edman opened with a 2:56.39 in the 1,200m then passed off to Benjamin that led to a 1:49.54 by Nick Hartle in the 800m and was finished off by a 4:05.76 in the mile by Austin O’Neil.
In the high jump sophomore Sage Stone equaled his indoor career best with a leap of 6-10.25 to finish third overall. Cody Crampton followed in fifth also at 6-10.25. Junior Austin Hazel improved his season best mark to 24-0.75 to place 12th overall. Jessie Maduka placed 13th in the long jump at 19-9.75.
In her first collegiate action for UCLA redshirt freshman Greta Wagner placed seventh in the pole vault with a clearance of 13-0.75. Redshirt freshman Stamatia Scarvelis in her second ever weight throw completion improved her early lifetime best with a mark of 59-2.75 to finish ninth.
Day two of the meet will begin for the Bruins at 10 a.m. PT in the women’s shot put. The track portion for UCLA will start at 10:30 a.m. PT with the 400m. The final day of competition will air on the SEC Network.
