REESEY BYERS, RENISHA ROBINSON LEAD SACRAMENTO STATE TO FOURTH PLACE FINISHES AT BIG SKY CHAMPIONSHIPS

CHENEY, Wash. — The Sacramento State men's and women's cross country teams each finished fourth at the 2010 Big Sky Conference Championships, Saturday morning at the Fairways Golf Course.

The men scored 134 points to achieve its highest finish at the conference meet in school history. Northern Arizona won its fourth consecutive title with 27 points and was followed by Montana State (56) and Weber State (99). Following Sacramento State were host Eastern Washington (147), Idaho State (151), Portland State (166), Montana (193) and Northern Colorado (250).

The Hornet women tallied 105 points to finish in the upper half of the conference. Montana stopped NAU's three-year run as conference champion by scoring 49 points. Weber State was second with 63 points while Idaho State scored 68 to place third. The remainder of the field consisted of NAU (124), Montana State (168), Eastern Washington (197), Portland State (213) and Northern Colorado (237).

Individually, senior Renisha Robinson [Jr. 2V San Jose, Calif./Archbishop Mitty HS ] earned all-conference honors by placing 10th in the women's race with a time of 16:14.87. Freshman Reesey Byers [Fr. HS Windsor, Calif./Santa Rosa HS] led the men's team by placing 19th. Byers covered the course in 23:15.09.

For the second straight meet, the Hornet men were paced by their youngest runners. Following Byers was fellow freshmen Zach Kaylor [Fr. HS Redding, Calif./Enterprise HS] (23:17.04) and Cole Younger [Fr. RS Visalia, Calif./Mt. Whitney HS] (23:27.39), and sophomores Daniel Mitchell [So. 1V Carmichael, Calif./Del Campo HS] (23:42.32) and Nathanael Litwiller [So. 1V Concord, Calif./Clayton Valley HS] (23:52.43).

"I'm really proud of how our men competed today," Director of Track and Field/Cross Country. "It was really exciting to see the young guys on this team step up for the second consecutive week."

For the women, freshman Breanna Lewis (Fr. HS Sacramento, Calif./Sheldon HS} finished second on the team, and 19th overall in 16:43.67. Seniors Lea Wallace [Sr. 1V Napa, Calif./Cal Poly ] (16:46.71) and Lora Marchini [Jr. 2V Hercules, Calif./Salesian HS] (16:56.95) finished 22nd and 26th, respectively. The final scorer for the team was senior Erin Lewis [Sr. 1V Modesto, Calif./Oregon] who ran 16:57.72 to place 28th.

Sacramento State will next compete at the Doc Adams Invitational hosted by UC Davis on Saturday, Nov. 6.
