Gilmore, a graduate of U.C. Berkeley, made his marathon debut in 2002 at the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon where he struggled home with a 2:21:48. Working with legendary coach Jack Daniels over the next two years, and four marathons later, he improved his personal best to 2:14:02 in 2004, when he finished 2nd at the California International Marathon. On April 18, 2005, Gilmore was tenth overall (second U.S. finisher) at the B.A.A. Boston Marathon. Currently competing unattached, he works part-time as a special education teacher and coaching a youth track team. Peter and his fianc, Liz Wu, live in San Mateo, California.
