SEATTLE - California junior Michael Coe claimed an automatic NCAA qualifying time in the men's 3,000-meter run and the Golden Bears added five provisional qualifiers in the Husky Classic at the Dempsey Indoor Facility on Saturday. Bears senior Inika McPherson (in the women's high jump) and sophomore teammate Cherrelle Garrett (women's 60-meter dash) hit season bests to post provisional qualifiers. Senior teammate Ed Wright recorded a provisional qualifier in the men's high jump, and Cal senior Katie Morgan and sophomore Bear Cyrena Giordano posted provisional qualifiers in the women's pole vault.

Coe ran a time of 7:48.05 to take second in the men's 3000-meter run. Both Coe and Oklahoma State's German Fernandez (7:47.97) surpassed the old Dempsey Indoor record of 7:48.59 set by former Cal star Bolota Asmerom.

McPherson won the women's high jump with a mark of 1.82 meters (5-11.50), with junior teammate Kristen Meister tying for fourth in 1.74 (5-8.50). Wright hit a mark of 2.18 meters (7-1.75) in the men's event.

Garrett, who won both the 60- and 200-meter dashes in Seattle, clocked a 7.34 to win the 60 after running a 7.42 to take the fastest 60 preliminary time. She won the 200 in 24.19.

Morgan, the 2008 NCAA outdoor champion in the women's pole vault, and Giordano both posted a mark of 3.96 meters (12-11.75), but Morgan edged Giordano for fourth in the event.





Cal returns to Seattle for a third time during this season for the Feb. 27-28 MPSF Championships at Dempsey Indoor.
