Keith Conning, State Meet Announcer: My father took me to track meets in Berkeley in the 1950's.
I had the opportunity to talk with Tommie Smith at the Comfort Suites in Clovis this past weekend.
I was standing on the back stretch of the San Jose State track on May 20, 1967. Tommie Smith set a world record of 44.5/44.8y in the 400m/440y. Lee Evans placed second in 45.3y.
