Alexandria Chamber of Commerce Supporting Sponsor of Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half

Hadeed Carpet Cleaning to provide "red carpet" treatment for finishers at October 2 event

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - (July 2011) - The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, the business voice of Alexandria for more than 100 years, has agreed to be a Supporting Sponsor of the 2011 Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half Marathon on Sunday, October 2, 2011.

"The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce is in the business of building strong member companies," said Chamber CEO Tina Leone. "Partnering on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half Marathon is yet another way the Chamber is working for our members, advocating for community events here that bring together individuals, families and visitors to experience Alexandria's shops, restaurants and recreational activities. We are excited to be a part of such a successful event and encourage businesses to sign up a company team!"

"The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce has been an active and strong voice for businesses in Alexandria as well as around the Washington beltway," said event director Steve Nearman, a chamber member since 1995 and past board member of seven years. "Benefiting the local economy has been one of the hallmarks of our event but this year we also are crowning the fittest company in Alexandria with the newly-created Alexandria Chamber Cup."

The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce is one of the largest chambers in the Greater Washington region, with 850 professional business members and partners employing more than 49,000 people region-wide.

The 13.1-mile Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half Marathon race is sanctioned by USA Track & Field on a USATF-certified course which begins at the Mount Vernon Estates, travels up George Washington Memorial Parkway to historic Old Town Alexandria, crosses the famous Woodrow Wilson Bridge and ends at the modern resort of National Harbor.

Last year's inaugural event sold out with 4,000 runners, prompting race organizers to raise the bar to put 5,000 starters on the line at this year's second edition.

This year, finishers will be treated to the "red carpet" treatment, thanks to the support of Hadeed Carpet Cleaning. Runners will pass over the carpet as they finish the half-marathon and file into the Michelob Ultra Finish Line Festival.

For over 56 years, the Hadeed family has specialized in the hand washing and restoration of oriental rugs. Hadeed employs a labor-intensive, time-tested method that is most effective and least corrosive. The Alexandria-based company employs approximately 100 employees dedicated to cleaning and maintaining rugs in a manner which provides beauty and longevity as they gain value over time. Hadeed Carpet has been an active supporter of the Alexandria Chamber.

The race will benefit Autism Speaks, Alice Ferguson Foundation, Back on My Feet, Child & Family Network Centers, Washington Area Women's Foundation, the RunningBrooke Fund and emerging elite U.S. distance runners. A shadow race in Iraq for U.S. and Iraqi soldiers has been added to this year's event.

The 2011 Giant Race Announces First Ever Sell Out
Runners can still participate through Fundraise to Run Program; Tim Lincecum bobble head for participants

SAN FRANCISCO - (July 21, 2011) - The 2011 Giant Race has announced that it has sold out more than one month prior to race date. With nearly 10,000 registered runners, the Giant Race is now one of the larger races in the San Francisco area. In addition, more than $50,000 has been raised for Project Open Hand to-date.

"We are thrilled that the running community, our Giants fans and supporters of Project Open Hand have embraced this race with such passion, and that the event has doubled in size. We are now hoping to grow our fundraising totals for Project Open Hand by the same impressive margins through the limited number of coveted "Fundraise to Run" entries," stated Sara Hunt, Senior Director for Giants Enterprises.

The Giant Race is set for Saturday, August 27 and features a half-marathon, 10K and 5K each finishing on the field of the World Champion San Francisco Giants. The Inaugural Kids Race presented by FedEx will feature an "in stadium" running experience and still has room for participants 12 and under. Runners still interested in participating at any distance are encouraged to join the Fundraise to Run Program benefiting Project Open Hand. More information can be found at: www.thegiantrace.com/fundraise

In true San Francisco Giants style participants will be treated to some of most bountiful schwag in the running world. While 2,500 participants were able to purchase a Giants game ticket to "Runner's Night," all participants will receive a Nike participant shirt, finisher medal and the coveted 2011 Tim Lincecum bobble head.

All three races start near AT&T Park and head north on the Embarcadero past San Francisco attractions including live bands, cheer teams, the Ferry Building, Fisherman's Wharf and the half-marathoners even greet the Golden Gate before returning to AT&T Park. The Safeway Post Race Expo inside the ballpark will host all finishers and feature food, music, endurance sports booths and ballpark vendors.

On the Friday night before the race, the San Francisco Giants will host the 2nd "Runner's Night" at the ballpark featuring a special section for race participants and their families as the Giants take on the Houston Astros.

Participants from outside San Francisco are encouraged to take advantage of some great room rates from the San Francisco Hilton in the Financial District serving as the Official Hotel Partner of the Giant Race. Visit www.thegiantrace.com to secure your lodging near the ballpark.
