CLINTON, Miss. -- Brianna Dekine of Xavier University of Louisiana ran 5,000 meters in a season-best 21 minutes, 29.21 seconds Saturday to finish 10th in the women's race at the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships.

Dekine is a freshman from Culver City and a 2009 graduate of Culver City High School. She was Xavier's fourth fastest runner at the league meet, and she was named All-GCAC because she finished in the top 10.

It was Dekine's first top-10 finish in six meets this season. Her time was approximately 75 seconds faster than her previous best.

The Gold Nuggets scored 38 points to win their fourth consecutive GCAC women's team championship.

Both Xavier teams qualified for the 2009 NAIA Men’s and Women’s Cross Country National Championships at Vancouver, Wash., on Nov. 21.
