Seattle Puts on a Show at 2014 Rock 'n' Roll Marathon

SEATTLE (June 21, 2014) - With a double bill of
Sir-Mix-A-Lot and The Presidents of United States of America at Seattle Center's Fisher Green, a venue packed with thousands of runners got double the fun on the first day of summer at the 2014 Rock 'n' Roll Seattle Marathon & ½ Marathon on Saturday.

.

The 6th edition of Seattle's marquee running event did not disappoint, attracting America's most decorated winter Olympian Apolo Ohno for his first race of any kind in the Emerald City. Ohno ran a personal best time of 1 hour, 36 minutes and 49 seconds as he trains to compete at the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.

The event crowned four new champions. With the mighty Mount Rainier shining in the distance on a picture perfect Seattle day, marathoner Drew Polley (above) had just passed mile 21 when he started to fade. As he entered the I-90 tunnel, cheers began erupting from the thousands of runners streaming down the other side.

The cheers and picturesque views pushed him to dig deeper, with defending champion Yon Yilma regaining ground behind him. Polley had gained an early lead after dropping Yilma in the first few miles. He would finish well ahead, in 2:24:52

Sambu, Daska Defend BAA 10K Titles

BOSTON (June 22, 2014)- Records tumbled in bunches here at the fourth B.A.A. 10K, as both Stephen Sambu (KEN) and Mamitu Daska (ETH) successfully defended their event titles from 2013. Sambu, 25, raced his way to a world leading time of 27:25 and set an American All-Comers Road Record (pending) for 8 kilometers en route, while Daska broke Kim Smith's (NZL) event record by finishing in 31:04, also the fastest time in the world this year.

Under crystal clear skies and with temperatures comfortably in the low 60Fs at the start, an event record of 6,619 runners completed the B.A.A. 10K's picturesque course through Boston's Back Bay neighborhood.

For the second consecutive year, Sambu defeated a past Boston Marathon champion on his way to winning the B.A.A. 10K. Last year, Sambu defeated 2013 Boston Marathon champion Lelisa Desisa (ETH) by nine seconds, winning the 2013 B.A.A. 10K in 28:06.

Hannah Breaks Course Record at Sports 4 Emilie's Run 5K

OTTAWA (June, 21, 2014) - Rachel Hannah of Toronto broke the course record at Sports 4 Emilie's Run 5K in Ottawa this morning, running 15 minutes, 57 seconds to break the previous record of 16:08 set by Kiwi Mary Davies in 2012.

Unlike the last race to produce a record, where Davies had pressure from American Amy Van Alstine until the 4K mark, Hannah was free of the field after the first 100 meters and ran a steady hard pace. Her split times for the Ks were 3:09, 6:18, 9:30, 12:43 and finishing in 15:57.

Robyn Mildren of Guelph out sprinted Masters runner
Lioudmila Kortchaguina of Thornhill, placing second in a personal best time of 17:06. to Kortchaguina's 17:07.
