A five-time All-American at Texas, Robyne Johnson enters her eighth season at Cal as an assistant coach in charge of the jumps and her 15th year coaching track and field at the Division I level. In 2002, Johnson begins her first season coaching the women's sprinters. In 1995, her first season with the Bears, Johnson coached a trio of athletes to five All-America honors - Lenards Ozolinsh in both the indoor and outdoor triple jump; Lee Adkins in both the indoor and outdoor long jump; and Amy Littlepage in the outdoor triple jump. Littlepage repeated her All-America status in 1996 with an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, and earned a pair of All-America honors in 1997, finishing seventh at both the NCAA indoor and outdoor meets. In 2000, she coached current junior Robert Kennedy to his first NCAA appearance in the long jump and an appearance at the World Junior Championships. Prior to her arrival in Berkeley, Johnson spent two years at Rider University, serving as the associate head coach for track and cross country. She helped establish a women's track and field program at Rider and also coached the men's squad. Prior to working at Rider, she served as an assistant coach at Penn State from 1987-92, where she coached three All-Americans, one Big Ten champion, nine ECAC champions and six Penn State record holders, including in the heptathlon, long jump, triple jump, 60 meters and the 100 meter hurdles. On the national level, Johnson was an assistant coach for the U.S. team that captured its first title at the 1998 World Cup in Johannesburg, South Africa. She is a member of the USA Track and Field Coaches Association and is the USA Track and Field national coordinator for the women's triple jump. A native of Newark, N.J., Johnson is a former American record holder in the triple jump. She placed ninth at the 1991 Indoor World Championship and has participated in four U.S. Olympic trials (1988, 1992, 1996 and 2000). A graduate of Berkeley High School, Johnson competed on the 1981 track team that won both the boys' and girls' state meets. She earned her undergraduate degree in 1986 from the University of Texas and her master's of science degree in educational psychology in 1998 from California State University-Hayward. She resides in Hercules.
